Court Security

The Sheriff's Office is responsible for the safety and security of the courthouse,
and transportation of inmates to and from courts.

In Fiscal year 2008 - 2009 the Sheriff's Office provided security for 695
court sessions and transported 1,594 persons in custody.

The Sheriff's Office uses both standing and hand-held metal detectors, as well as an x-ray machine to ensure that weapons are not introduced into the courthouse.

Items Restricted from Courthouse

Some of the restricted items include:  guns, pocket knives, box cutters, pepper spray or mace, scissors, handcuff keys (with the exception of  law enforcement), fish hooks on hats, and spiked belts.  Any other item that may be considered a weapon may also be restricted from the courthouse.

In October 2001, the Sheriff's Office published and adopted an Emergency Action Plan for all Courthouse employees. The plan was written after an in-depth risk assessment and research project was conducted. This plan outlines the procedures to be taken by all employees during any emergency situation that may involve courthouse employees.
